UAM Smart City Indicators Framework: A tool for the Smart Cities of the future
Future Needs, as part of the SAFIR-Med project's tasks, has created a first approach for the alignment of UAM with Smart City concepts and standards by leading the development of a UAM (Urban Air Mobility) Smart City Indicators Framework. This report consists of an assessment of the effectiveness and implications of UAM adoption for urban spatial structure focusing on the mid-term timeline and the significance of changes that will be brought about in the city context. It is based on the Sustainable Urban Mobility Indicators (SUMI) framework outlined by the European Commission and gathers additional parameters necessary for the impact assessment of UAM by cities and local authorities in their respective areas.
A framework of UAM indicators is essential for city employees and smart cities of the future. This framework helps to measure the performance of UAM systems, which are being increasingly adopted in urban areas. By having a UAM indicators framework, city employees can track the progress of their UAM projects, as well as identify opportunities for improvement. This allows for better decision-making and more efficient resource allocation. Additionally, the framework can provide a snapshot of how successful a city's UAM initiatives are, enabling cities to benchmark their performance. Ultimately, having a UAM indicators framework helps to ensure that cities are utilizing the technology to its fullest potential and their citizens’ needs are met.
